Taqueria El Tarasco

Taqueria El Tarasco

A Delicious Taste Of México

Joel and Jessica Vega were excited to finally open their long-awaited Taqueria El Tarasco in early March 2020.

However, like many new business owners who started last year, their dreams were quickly dampened. “We were open for about 15 days before being shut down due to the pandemic,” said Jessica. “We had been waiting to see when would be the best time to open our doors, finally decided on 2020, and then the world stopped. Who would’ve known?” Then a short couple weeks later, on March 26, Joel and Jessica welcomed their newborn daughter (baby number seven) into the world, adding even more to their plate. “We’ve had a very busy year full of ups and downs.”

Jessica grew up in the restaurant business with parents who own an establishment in Southern California and an uncle who owns one in Colorado. “I grew up doing little things like filling up the salsa containers and making sure the napkins were ready,” said Jessica. “Seeing my mom and uncles cook all the time and being in that environment inspired me. It’s in my blood.” Pair Jessica’s passion for food with Joel’s love for Brentwood, and it only makes sense to choose the Sand Creek Road location as the home for Taqueria El Tarasco. “My husband has lived in Brentwood for over 30 years. He grew up here, and his dad was here long before my husband, back when it was nothing but orchards. This has always felt like his home.”

Despite opening during a pandemic, Joel and Jessica are not discouraged and will not give up easily. With no extended family in California, the two are the main people in the restaurant every day, seven days a week, pouring their hearts and souls into what they’re offering to the community. They are confident that they bring an authentic flavor to Brentwood that cannot be found elsewhere and simply hope that more people get a chance to taste it. As for the far future, Joel hopes to expand but the couple is in no rush. “We want to take it slowly,” said Jessica. “Our main focus is providing the highest quality food. Everything else will come with time.” Taqueria El Tarasco is open until 9:00 p.m. Joel and Jessica invite you to stop by and enjoy a delicious taste of Mexico.
