Made With Love
After having her last baby, Norma Muhlenbruch noticed that some of the extra pregnancy weight was refusing to come off.
So, as determined as she was, Norma began meal prepping, working out, and trying to live an overall healthier life. However, after a while, eating the same foods over and over was leaving Norma frustrated. “I was becoming incredibly bored and tired of the same foods,” said Norma. “So, one day I called my mom and asked what I could do to change the flavors of my meals, otherwise the healthy eating was not going to last.” Norma’s mom encouraged her to try using her spices and creativity in the kitchen to make some delicious salsa and avocado sauce to change things up and take her meals to the next level. After six to nine months of testing dips and a green salsa combinations, Norma perfected her recipes and was able to eventually lose over 100 pounds.
Norma’s friends and family got their hands on her salsa and avocado dip and begged her to sell her sauces so everyone could enjoy them. Norma already had a busy full-time work schedule as an account manager for a broker firm, so adding a side job didn’t seem like an option. “I have been asked for the last 10 years to sell my Wicked Green Salsa and DipMeDown avocado dip, but I never had the courage until February 2021.” In the midst of a global pandemic, Norma took the plunge and launched Norma’s Wicked Salsas, offering three salsas and one avocado dip. She has Wicked Red (Mild), Wicked Green (Medium), Wicked Fire (Spicy), and DipMeDown Avocado (Mild and Keto friendly). “I will say the DipMeDown Avocado is the number one seller; I sell out all the time,” said Norma. “Second place is Wicked Red.”
There are various ways you can purchase your own delicious salsas and dip. Norma takes weekly pre-orders through her Instagram and Facebook pages, as well as stocking the shelves at The Urban Edge Farm Store, McCauley’s Country Market, and The Playhouse Brentwood. Norma can also be found as a vendor at various events around town, offering free samples. “When I started, I never thought my little company would grow so quicky,” said Norma. “I still work my full-time job, so I am very busy all the time, every week day and every weekend. But it is such a great feeling to be able to express my creative side with my salsas! It’s like having the best of both worlds. I love my culture and love to see people’s expressions when they taste my products!”
Norma’s Wicked Salsas is already making a name for itself throughout the East Bay Area, and Norma doesn’t plan on stopping any time soon. “I am so excited to see what the future holds for us. My husband and I have dreams and plans to see my products on big store shelves. The sky is the limit!”
